Sustainability advice
Greenhouse inventories
Inventories of greenhouse emissions for the Cities of Onkaparinga, West Torrens and Campbelltown, Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (FNQROC), as well as private companies including Norman Waterhouse Lawyers.
Sustainable design advice
Sustainable Focus provided independent design advice for capital works projects including:
- the refurbishment and extension of Norwood Town Hall offices and various small projects for the City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters. The incorporation of a building management system was a highlight.
- the rebuild of the City of Prospect Civic Centre and various small projects. Large improvements to the air-conditioning energy performance and comfort were a highlight.
- the design and construction of two new toilet blocks for the City of Charles Sturt. Improved daylighting and lighting control were a highlight.
Green Hub
Sustainable Focus was engaged by the City of Onkaparinga to work with the Coromandel Community Centre staff and volunteers to identify opportunities for transforming the Centre into a 'Green Hub'. The proposed Hub would provide a demonstration site of practical, cost-effective sustainable living and a location for hands-on learning about environmental sustainability.
Sustainability Action Plan
In collaboration with the client, we developed a business case to support investment in projects that will improve the environmental performance of the Adelaide & Mt Lofty Ranges NRM Board in waste, energy, water and transport.
Fleet reviews
Review of vehicle fleet management at the IMVS and the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters to identify opportunities for greenhouse abatement and cost savings. Review of refuse truck fuel and efficiency options.
Green Hubs
Sustainable Focus was engaged by the Conservation Council of South Australia to review opportunities for energy, water and waste reductions at community facilities and to provide strategic input to project design. The aim of the project is to engage the community in environmental action through clubs, recognising their role as leaders in the community.
Residential energy efficiency project
Identification of most cost-effective strategies for improving residential energy efficiency in South Australia. Prepared for the Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure in partnership with Monica Oliphant and Energy Strategies.
Solar café
Development of a feasibility and concept plan for the design of a solar powered café for the Green City Program, in partnership with Troppo Architects.
Cogeneration
Cost-benefit analysis for the Department of Health for a cogeneration facility at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Detailed feasibility study for a cogeneration facility at Flinders Medical Centre.
Energy efficiency in residential care facilities
Design and implementation of the Energy Assistance for Residential Care Facilities program for the Northern Adelaide Region Cities for Climate Protection program. This involved the recruitment, energy auditing and development of an action plan for greenhouse reduction projects at 10 residential care facilities.
Parramatta Greenhouse Leaders Project
Sustainable Focus developed this project with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority and Parramatta City Council. A number of leading property groups made a financial commitment to reducing their greenhouse impact through this project.
Energy efficiency opportunities in the oil and gas industry
Exploration of energy efficiency opportunities at Moomba for Santos.
Home water and energy audits
As well as a number of private home audits we have undertaken 165 home water and energy audits on behalf of a coalition of metropolitan Councils and State Government agencies and 20 low-income audits on behalf of Energy SA.
Green buildings
Research of national green building rating schemes and development of the Building Tune-up program for the City of Adelaide.
Residential peak demand analysis
Characterisation of different home types by their contribution to peak demand in collaboration with the South Australian Housing Trust.
Energy Friends
Technical evaluation of the Energy Friends Low Income Audit program.
